Pont du Loup, a place of charm and history
La Colle-sur-Loup
Saut du Loup waterfall This waterfall is fed by one of the streams, which splits in two before crossing an ancient lava flow.
Just ten kilometers from Les Pinèdes campsite, you can visit the Confiserie Florian des Gorges du Loup in Pont du Loup, created in 1949 within the walls of the former Pont du Loup perfumery. Its building overlooking the river Loup welcomes you for a guided tour to discover the secrets of making jams, sweets and other fruit- and flower-based confectionery.
From the bridge over the River Loup, you can see five pillars, the remains of the Viaduc du Loup, where the Nice-Meyrargues train line ran from 1886 to August 24, 1944, when the Pascaressa viaduct, the metal Siagne viaduct, the Manda bridge and the Viaduc du Loup were blown up by the Germans following the liberation of Grasse.
Starting from the confectionery, you’ll find a path that follows the river, offering several beaches for a refreshing swim, a picnic, or simply a moment of relaxation by the water. The further you go along this path, the more you’ll discover natural pools and even, after crossing a footbridge, a climbing site located in a Natura 2000 area.
The Gorges du Loup ideal spot for sports enthusiasts
Many sports enthusiasts enjoy the area, particularly for canyoning and climbing. You can also hike, cycle and, when the water flow permits, try your hand at canoeing.
Several climbing spots are accessible along the river or a little further out, offering routes ranging from 4c to 8a+, and all climbers will appreciate the view of the surrounding nature.
Villages served by the Loup
Rising at an altitude of 1,200 metres in the Audibergue massif in the commune of Andon, the Loup meanders for 45 kilometers through several villages before joining the Mediterranean between Villeneuve-Loubet and Cagnes-sur-Mer. Along the way, you’ll discover Cipières and Gréolières, high above Andon. Gourdon, a perched village listed as one of France’s most beautiful villages, offers an exceptional view of the Loup gorges and the coast, with panoramic views stretching from Italy to the Estérel massif.
Descending a little, you’ll pass through Bar-sur-Loup, a village renowned for its bigaradier cultivation; then Tourettes-sur-Loup, another hilltop village remarkable for its medieval charm and artists; then back to La Colle-sur-Loup with the Parc Départemental des Rives du Loup just 200 meters from Les Pinèdes campsite, before reaching Villeneuve-Loubet and the Mediterranean Sea.
Remarkable waterfalls
The Pinèdes team has noted a few of its favorite waterfalls: the Courmes waterfall, visible from the road and impressive for its height, the Demoiselles waterfall and the Grande Marmite waterfall, visible from the Saut du Loup site on the road between Pont du Loup and Gourdon.
